Three climatic cycles recorded in a loess-paleosol sequence at Semlac (Romania) – implications for dust accumulation in south-eastern Europe doi Spatial

Recent investigations of the Semlac loess section in the south-eastern Carpathian Basin, which is situated at an undercut slope position on the right bank of the Mureş River in its lower reaches (Banat region, western Romanian), are presented and discussed. Dating back to marine isotope stage (MIS) 10, the more than 10 m thick loess sequence includes four fossil soil-complexes developed in homogenous and relatively fine silty loess. Because of the good preservation of the sediment, Semlac is regarded as a...

Les techno-complexes Ibéromaurusiens d’Ifri El Baroud (Rif Oriental, Maroc)

This report summarizes the results of excavations conducted by the Institut National des Sciences de l’Archéologie et du Patrimoine and the German Archaeological Institute at Ifri el-Baroud (Gunpowder Cave). The cultural deposits of Ifri el-Baroud showed to be of a depth of up to 3 meters and to have formed between the 19th and 8th century BC, as proved by a series of radiocarbon datings. The upper part of the stratigraphy consists of an “escargotière” from terrestrian snails, the lower part is formed by a...

Large-eddy simulation of Convective Turbulent Dust Emission SFB806 doi

The video shows results of a large-eddy simulation of Convective Turbulent Dust Emission (CTDE) described by Klose and Shao (2013), Article Large-eddy simulation of turbulent dust emission, Aeolian Research, 8 (doi10.1016/j.aeolia.2012.10.010). Modeled dust concentration is visualized with a volume rendering approach. A particle-tracing is applied to illustrate a dust devil occurring in the simulation. Colors indicate the direction of particle movement. The visualization has been done with DeskVOX, a...
