Endorheische Becken in SW-Spanien: eine GIS-Vorerkundung zu weiterführenden Paläoumwelt-Studien Spatial
To understand paleoenvironment and its evolution, paleoenvironmental reconstruction is indispensable. Various climate archives containing data of several thousands of years allow conclusions about environmental conditions in prehistoric times. On the Iberian Peninsula such significant data can be found in lacustrine depositions in endorheic salt lakes. The Collaborative Research Centre 806 (CRC 806) established by the universities of Cologne, Bonn and Aachen examines the history and migration of humanity...

Hassi Berkane, eine neu entdeckte, steinzeitliche Fundstelle im östlichen Rif, Marokko SFB806 doi Spatial
Hassi Berkane (“Wellspring Berkane”) is an Iberomarusian site in the Nador Province in Northeastern Morocco. A thick escargotière visible in construction trenches and underneath the rockshelter on the outskirts of the town was investigated by the team from the CRC 806 in 2014. Profiles in the trench were documented and two boreholes were drilled underneath the rockshelter. The team found lithics and faunal remains in the cores alongside terrestrial snail shell fragments, as well as multiple charcoals taken...

Continuity vs. Discontinuity. Epipaleolithic and Early Neolithic in the Mediterranean Southeast of the Iberian Peninsula Spatial
This study deals with the Neolithization process on a regional scale in SE Spain. The narrow chronological and spatial focus on the Epipaleolithic-Early Neolithic transition in Murcia, Almería, Granada and Málaga is a unique characteristic of this study. 10 lithic inventories and vessel units of five pottery assemblages of Epipaleolithic and Early Neolithic origin were recorded systematically in a database that is available in www.nespos.org associated with the DOI 10.12853/RESDB.NESPOS.0001.

Les carnivores des gisements néolithiques et protohistoriques du nord du Maroc / The neolithic and protohistoric camivorafrom northern Morocco. doi Spatial
The north Morocco neolithic and protohistoncal archaeological levels yielded a dozen species of Carnivora. The Canidae are represented by Lycaon sp , Vulpes vulpes, Cams famiharis, Cams aureus and perhaps an other species of Cams For the Fehdae, besides Panthera leo, Panthera pardus and Fehs silvestns we note the presence of medium size felines like Fehs serval and Fehs caracal. The measurements indicate in fact that the bear (Ursus arctos) was small and thickset a high intraspecific variability of dog and...

Etude de la sépulture ibéromaurusienne 1 d’Ifri n’Baroud (Rif oriental, MAROC) / Study of the burial ibéromaurusian 1 of Ifri n’Baroud (Eastern Rif, MOROCCO) Spatial
This article deals with the study of the first burial at the site of Ifri n Baroud
(Eastern Rif, Morocco) . It is about an individual primary burial of a tall female adult
subject found in a grave. The Iberomaurusian archaeological level to which belongs
the burial would be at least 12 500 years old. The grave in question has an oblique
bottom. The latter marrowness and the obliqueness of its bottom are evidences that the
subject should have been put in a dorsal decubitus position much contracted...

GIS-based catchment analysis for prehistoric sites (Poster) Spatial
One of the main objectives of the Collaborative Research Centre 806 (CRC 806) is to capture the complex nature of chronology, regional structure, climatic, environmental and socio-cultural contexts in Europe during the last 190.000 years, by interdisciplinary research.
This poster presents the first results of a collaboration between projects C1 and Z2 of the CRC 806 that aims to use SCA for sites from the Solutrean and Magdalenian on the Iberian Peninsula.
Contribution to the overall research of the CRC...

Prospection of karstic caves using GIS and remote-sensing techniques for Geoarchaeological research, NE-Morocco Spatial
Caves and rock shelters are important archives for archaeological research. Prehistoric men not only sheltered in caves but also set up camps in open-air locations. Over the last 15 years a joint research group, comprising INSAP (Institut National des Sciences de l’Archéologie et du Patrimoine du Maroc), KAAK (Kommission für Archäologie Außereuropäischer Kulturen, German Archaeology Institute) and the University of Cologne, has been carrying out surveys and excavations in the area of the Eastern Rif...
